Black Ghost Audio is the data controller responsible for your personal information.

What we do

We sell an online music-production course, "Music Production for Beginners" ($199 USD, lifetime access, self-paced video lessons, with a 30-day money-back guarantee). We also offer free sample-pack downloads, publish a blog, and run a YouTube channel.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Name: provided at account signup, checkout, newsletter signup, contact form, and free-download forms.
  • Email address: provided at account signup, course checkout, newsletter signup, contact form, and free-download/lead-magnet forms.
  • Billing and shipping address: collected at checkout so we can calculate the correct sales tax.
  • Course progress and quiz data: your lesson progress and quiz responses, so you can track your learning.
  • Technical and usage data: your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you view, collected through analytics tools.

We do not collect or store your payment card details. When you pay, your card information is entered on and handled directly by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.

How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and give you access to the course you purchased.
  • To process payments and calculate applicable sales tax.
  • To track your course progress and quiz results.
  • To send transactional emails such as receipts, course-access details, and password resets.
  • To send marketing emails (newsletter, new-course and content updates, and abandoned-checkout reminders) where permitted.
  • To respond to your questions and support requests.
  • To operate, secure, and improve our website through analytics.
  • To keep tax and transaction records as required by law.

Marketing emails

We send a newsletter, new-course and content updates, and abandoned-checkout reminder emails. We collect marketing consent through an opt-in checkbox at checkout. Our marketing emails cover topics including course updates, new YouTube videos, and new blog posts.

You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe or preference-center link included in every marketing email. Even if you opt out of marketing, we will still send you transactional emails (receipts, course access, and password resets), because these are necessary to provide the service you purchased.

Cookies and tracking

We use strictly-necessary, analytics, and advertising cookies. Non-essential cookies are controlled through a cookie-consent banner using Google Consent Mode: they are denied by default in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland until you accept, and offered on an opt-out basis elsewhere (for example, in the US). You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" control on our site. For full details, please see our Cookie Policy.

Third-party services we use

We share personal information with trusted service providers who process it on our behalf. Each provides a specific function:

  • Stripe: payment processing and sales-tax calculation.
  • SendGrid: delivery of transactional and marketing email.
  • Google Analytics 4: website analytics.
  • Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and session replay (recently added).
  • Google Ads: advertising, remarketing, and measurement.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Ads: advertising, remarketing, and conversion measurement.
  • Mediavine: display advertising on our blog articles.
  • Amazon Associates: affiliate product links.
  • DigitalOcean: website and application hosting.
  • MongoDB Atlas: database storage.
  • Backblaze B2: encrypted backups.

We may also disclose information when required to comply with the law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Black Ghost Audio, our users, or others.

Legal bases for processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: to deliver the course and give you access to what you purchased.
  • Consent: for marketing emails and non-essential cookies.
  • Legitimate interests: for site security, analytics, and reminding a shopper who abandoned checkout.
  • Legal obligation: to keep tax and transaction records.
